PROJECT OVERVIEW
Rehabilitation project of Lower Jehlum Canal(LJC) consists of two parts. Part A (RD 0 to 49) amounting to
about Rs 129 million with three contract packages was stated in July, 2004. Part
B (RD 49 to Tail) was commenced in December, 2005 with single contract package
amounting to about Rs 891 million.
PERFORMANCE REVIEW
Original completion date of Part A was 31 May 2005. Part A
is 83% complete as yet. The Schedule Performance Index has remained between 0.55
and 0.80. Some works are left pending for some past time. This has moved
Earliest Finish date further to June, 2007. Remaining works other than some
finishing works consist of remodeling of bridges in Packages B and C, Catch
Water Drain (Package A, B and C), Cattle Baths and some part of stone-pitching
in Package A, and monitoring facilities.
Progress in Part B is satisfactory. According to the plan,
Earliest Finish date is 27 April 2009. Overall project SPI is 0.976 and target
SPI is 1.009.
SERVICES BY DGM&E
- DGM&E was engaged right in the planning stage. The project plans
for both Part A and Part B were made by the DGM&E Engineers in association with
execution staff of the department. These plans were provided to the department
as well. DGM&E team had been visiting the project sites to ascertain the progress.

Efforts were made to enhance project management capacity of the
department staff. Individuals of XEN and SDO levels were trained through project
management courses/seminars.
- Meetings were also called with the concerned department staff to
resolve the problems pertaining to the project. Time to time guidance was
provided to the department staff during the execution phase.
